Creating a perfect Patina!!!

Happy Friday everyone - and it is a happy Friday - because while in my lab yesterday I came up with this,
a  "By George, I think I've got it" moment!!!

I'm in the midst of painting an antique dresser all white - and wanted a little " color " on the handles -
I LOVE patina.

I started off with these  ( my favorite types of handles by the way )

knobs, patina, antique

I sprayed them lightly with this ( lightly - leaving some of the brassy color showing through )
Rust-oleum Metallic -

While it was still tacky - I lightly spray painted with the next color - this is called AQUA
Don't ask me why I did it while it was still tacky - I should say I was trying out a new
technique but the plain simple truth is I couldn't wait the 10 minutes it takes for one coat
of spray paint to dry................

and this was the result!!!
Antique, knobs, drawer pulls, Patina

Doesn't that look like perfectly aged copper ( Church Steeples ) ?
Watch - I'll start putting patina on everything in sight lmho.................

I may practice this a little more - put in some pinks and a deep turquoise in areas - but for now - I have
patina - fied handles for my dresser!  I'm thinking these are going to be so pretty against white drawers!
( they'd look even prettier on a shabby chic dresser )

faux patina,knobs, antique

Ok - gotta run - have a lot of things I need to get my patina on :)

Oh and by the way!!!  I just found out yesterday that I had become a no reply blogger -
I had no idea that happens when you switch to Google +
So here I am with a no reply blogger fix on my blog - and I've been a no reply blogger for at
least a month - how embarrassing :(
If anyone has made the switch - chances are you're one too - please visit Fluster Buster for a step by step
fix to this problem!
AND Google should let you know this happens when you switch over, don't you think?

Many many thanks for the feature!
Elizabeth and Co.

  2. Ooohh, LOVE those handles. Now, did you rub them or anything, or just spray the one coat over the other? Would it look the same if dry, or is the being still tacky what made it look so layered?

  3. I love the handles they look amazing. I am going to have to try that combination too. When I switched to google I couldn't dowload pics anymore so I switched back. hugs Tobey

  11. I was laughing when I read your "no-reply-blogger" problem... Like, it couldn't happen to me since I had switch back out of Google +. Then, just to be sure, I checked! Well, it seems that I had been a no-reply-blogger for a while as well, probably since the mess I made when I tried Google +!!! It's all checked now, or at least I hope!

  13. I like the word "patina-fy". I decided it's a legitimate word. Coined by you. I patina-fy, you patina-fy, we ALL patina-fy!!! I bought a verdigris kit years ago and, yeah, I was going a little crazy, patinafying everything. I had to calm myself down, lol!!

Looking forward to more patinafied items from you!!

    Have a great week-end.

  14. Just wondering... did all the handles come out like that? Curious to know if this was just a fluke or if others done with the same method looked the same.

    John must think you're brilliant!

  32. i love your new patina and I can't wait to see it with other colors. I too like to spray paint before the first coat is dry. I think it helps to soften the look, or I could be impatient too.
