I did a quick transformation on my bed this weekend - I do this on a regular basis just to drive John nuts lol.
No actually - because I painted the floors - and put different furniture in there - the bed was looking kind of
blahhhh.
Years ago when we first purchased it, it was one of these
The headboard and the footboard were identical - I painted out the MDF - we put trim around it - and glued on an applique on each end............... ( just a little side note - to get the appliques like that I first painted them black - then painted white over them lightly - so that the black stayed in all the crevices - I'm sure most of you know that trick - but hey - what if just one of you didn't??? )
A couple of years ago I decided to change the head board again - upholstering it this time ( although I kept the footboard the same as I mentioned above )
I did this by removing the MDF board I had painted - cut out some foam - drilled some holes in the back so I could place buttons on it - and I ended up with this.
It's a mess in the back I know - but no one ever sees that so it's ok (don't ask what my cupboards look like)
I wanted something new and clean so this weekend I gave the bed a fresh coat of white paint - and reupholstered it in dropcloth - my new obsession
No buttons this time - or no buttons for now - who knows - I could change my mind by next wknd
You'd never believe that behind the upholstered MDF is a slat bed, right?
Well YOU would know it because I told you - but no one else would.
I wish Pic Monkey had an option to make a bed - because I'm just too tired to do it myself
and though I'm almost finished this bedroom makeover - I'm still not quite done - so this is all I have
to show today ( I seem to be using the words " almost " and " not quite " frequently lately - have you noticed? )

Looks awesome! I am obsessed with drop cloth too! Looks wonderful! Xx
ReplyDeleteWell aren't you just the crafty chick. Well done. It looks great in all its reincarnations.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea, I had one of those beds about 16 years ago, should have kept it and done something to it. Blogging, it makes you regret everything you ever got rid of.
ReplyDeleteI think I like it better without the buttons, ill marry that monkey if it makes beds anytime soon!
I like the transformation of your bed! Looks great.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
Huggs Erica
Thanks so much Ericas!!!
DeleteYou have a great day too
xxx
love it love it love it-love dee x
ReplyDeleteAwesome, and now you won't have to dust all the slats.
ReplyDeleteLove it. What a great transformation from the slats.
ReplyDeleteFabulous transformation. I love how it really updates the bed. Great job. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI love every version of it. (Well, your upgrades anyhow. Not about the slat version, lol!) ;^)
ReplyDeleteNicole
dropcloth is my obsession too :) looks great
ReplyDeleteIt came out great. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm the one person (I bet there are others, lol) who didn't know the black/white truck. I'm so inexperienced. ;)
wow its looking great cant wait for the whole reveal
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful makeover! I love it Suzan!
ReplyDeleteYour work is amazing! I love how you have gotten so much use out of one headboard - very creative. BTW, I was the ONE who didn't know you got applique's to look like that by painting black and then white, thanks for putting that in and now maybe someday I can try it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kelli!!!
DeleteWell so far there's 2 of you that didn't know the trick for antiquing appliques lol - so I'm happy I included it - have a wonderful week,
Hugs,
Suzan
It looks very classy... And even John must agree it's better than sleeping on the sofa!
ReplyDeleteYou have been getting a lot done lately. Impressive.
ReplyDeleteBliss
Holy smokes Suzan... you've been busy!! Your headboard looks fabulous. I agree with Mel... blogging definitely makes me regret everything I ever got rid of. Love your curtains!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to need a nap in that bed...you are making me tired with all your busy-ness this past week. Clever, clever re-do, Suze.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea about PicMonkey having the option to make a bed. Please add all the other options we need, too. Like clean house, paint walls, add George Clooney. You know, just the basics.
Your new bed frame looks wonderful! So creative! I've not heard of the dropcloth obsession. I must get out from under my rock and check it out. I love that you didn't make your bed! I stress wayyyyyy too much -LOL!
ReplyDeleteWow, way to go with transforming your bed...often. I love all 3 looks, and the drop cloth seems so fresh & clean.
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)
Sweet dreams are made of this
ReplyDeleteWho am I to disagree?
I travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something
(just not sure WHAT I am looking for anymore)..lol
You did a SWEET job of making that bed look DREAMY. Great job, Suzan. I LOVE drop cloth, too- xo Diana
LOVELY, Suzan!! Good grief, if I had a fraction of the ambition that you have, think of all I could accomplish around here! I hope John appreciates you. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am loving what you are doing with your bedroom. If you are working in there, where do you sleep? A serious question: Now that the floors are painted, are you doing something special to protect the finish or did you seal them?
ReplyDeleteWow. I barely got out of my pyjamas this weekend! For shame! You are amazing! I of course...would not have known tat trick for the applique!! :)
ReplyDeleteKaren
You're so handy and always think outside of the box. You did a marvelous job.
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Meredith
Another great transformation! Any suggestions for transforming my 18th century reproduction mahogany 4 poster rice bed? I loved it 12 years ago. Now, not so much. The best thing is that the frame is so high off the ground that I can shove full sized plastic storage bins under it!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Suzan! You may never need another bed frame if you keep redesigning this one! Oh, and you can never make too many things out of dropcloths.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great design sense, Suzan. Love the currentness of each of these transformations from slat bed to upholstered headboard to the dropcloth version. Wow, wow, wow.
ReplyDeleteThanks SO much Heather - you're so sweet!
DeleteHave a great day,
Hugs,
Suzan
OMG! I have an ugly slatted headboard! I could so do this! Thank you ma'am!
ReplyDeleteI would have never thought to do that, but now I have you. And all your creative ideas have me looking at things not as what they are but at what they can become. I love the bed, the room is looking amazing. hugs Tobey
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great! I love drop cloths as well and use them for many projects!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jennifer - it's a great cloth for so many things, right?
DeleteXOX
Amazing transformation....and I approve of the fabric (LOL) because I used it for drapes and upholstery (see my blog)

ReplyDeleteThank you for linking. What a wonderful transformation!
ReplyDeleteSuzan, I love drop cloth too! To me it's the new linen. lol! I was just telling my friends yesterday that I was going to paint my bed white when the basement is finished and I need a project. I find myself say 'a bit' alot on my posts. We all have our go to words. lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
