I WANNA live there # 39

I live in a pretty incredible area - in Montreal, It's an historical neighbourhood loaded with tons and tons of charm - and 20th century architecture, just steps away from the city center, it's also a pretty expensive neighbourhood ( in which I live in servants quarters basically compared to what I'm surrounded by )
Because there are days I don't have furniture makeovers to show you - I've chosen Wednesdays to showcase and feature one or two homes that are for sale around here.................( or apartment - or duplex - or teepee )
Keep in mind this is in the heart of the city - so the prices reflect that  - think Manhattan - where these places would cost 3 or 4 times what they're listed for here!
On occasion I'll showcase beautiful homes in other areas - countries - continents - the one thing most of them will have have in common will be their age - because I love old homes with stories to tell, join me won't you?
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

It's all about me again this week - because I found another listing that speaks - no sings to me!

Come take a peak - and let me know what you think - of course there's some work to do - but I can't tell you how much I love it!
Miss City Girl - and if I keep saying that till you're sick to death of hearing it - please understand that I keep saying it for a reason.............this is going to be such a major change in my life that it's overwhelming - these places I'm looking at now are in " down in the boondocks "

You ready?
LOVE LOVE LOVE this one

Paint the exterior in Cream or White and Black - some badly needed landscaping - lots of it - all around the perimeter and the walkway..................window boxes under all the windows

Here's how special it could look

source

Entrance way...................if I have to give up my Victorian Moldings - then I could live with wood ceilings!
Oh how welcoming I could make this space

Don't you love the floors?

French doors leading out to veranda?  Hello dream come true ( nipple light be gone )

The tiles have to go ( in my world ) and a big slab of marble would replace the wood on the island but I could live with everything else - very very easily - I might even start baking apple pies from scratch living here - instead of running up the street like I do now to the closest bakery ( because that's what you tend to do in the city, don't you know ) and if this kitchen doesn't scream apple pie baking in the oven - well then I don't know what does...................

That tile has to go ( oh - already said that )

It wouldn't take all that much work to make this kitchen

sort of look like this kitchen ( which would be my inspiration )
Where Meryl Streep called home in " It's Complicated "

source
Cute family room - but it could be a great office too!

I can't get enough of the french doors -

Let's go upstairs - ( what's with all these light fixtures ??? ) but OH what landing

I love how the bedrooms have windows on 2 separate walls...............

one of those bedrooms could be a beautiful walk in closet, right?

I have to go see this one - maybe this weekend - and after all these photos - John's heart is still on This one

But my heart has switched loyalties after seeing this ( in all fairness I know enough to know that photos can be very very deceiving - but I still HAVE to see it - it's exactly the type of house I envision myself in )

This " Village " has an upscale Flea Market every year - from May to October - called Finnegan's - where maybe I could have a booth for my furniture ..................

source

Here's the town hall - in winter

source
Here's a typical store on Main street ( aggghhhh it has a Main st - how adorable is that ? )

source
and it's walking distance to Sandy Beach

What does everyone think?
It's 45 minutes out of the city of Montreal ....................
I'm in love.
Again.

  1. I love the porches around the house! I am guessing the paneling I see is hiding bad walls and the bath needs a complete overhaul but it really is very charming! A big bonus would be the possibility of a place to market your furniture that would get a lot of traffic!

  2. It's a tough call because the first place has some really nice size rooms and the huge screened in porch is a bonus. But, I don't love the modernization they did in the reno. I pick number two. More years ago than I care to remember a very rich man told me to buy on water because they aren't making any more of it. No. 2 isn't on water but it's pretty darned close. The flea market could be perfect for you! I'm getting all wrapped up in this Laura with a Z!

  3. We have two full-size, complete kitchens in our house, both pretty spacious, but neither one of them is laid out right to DO things...like bake apple pies. :)

And the nipple light reference. I wouldn't have seen the comparison. I see it now, lolol

  4. I love this house! The tile in the kitchen does need to go for sure, but it is perfect otherwise! I never minded those lights until I heard them called nipple lights and now I can't stand them...lol. I think this one is perfect. :)

  5. What's the foundation like? Is there a basement? How's the furnace? Central air? How old is the electrical? I think these questions mean that I really like this one and am trying to get all those potential deal breakers right out of the way. See? I'm over involved. If you leave the bustle of the city you will NEED an attractive community to help with the transition. This seems to have it. I love the wood on the kitchen walls (agree with you on the tile, though) and that bathroom has wonderful potential. Beautiful woodwork & floors. I made one of my bedrooms into a walk in closet...the original closet designed by the people of 1901 was supremely inefficient. I vote a cautious "yes".

  6. Oh........what you (or I) could do with that house! Did I mention I've been married to a builder/renovator for a looong time? There's so much potential there it's frightening to realize you'd have to make decisions like - is that a pull chain for a tiolet in the bathroom? There must be a way to update that bath and incorporate that somehow. The light and space in that house are amazing. Butcher block countertops? I just put those in my kitchen! And my island is granite tile. Yup......big closet necessary and there are enough rooms to do that. Decisions......decisions........decisions........

  11. One word: POTENTIAL!!! I love it.....

What "Village" is it in? I'm thinking it's in the Eastern Townships and that is Baie Missisquoi on Lake Champlain.
