John's Desk.................

Suzan says - If we're thinking of selling we're going to have to get this house in order - starting with the office
John says - ( AND I'M NOT JOKING ) Why - what's wrong with the office?
Suzan says - It doesn't show have to start taking care of your messes - I can't run after you anymore
John says - I have no idea what you're talking about -
Suzan says - If we move - I want my own office - I can't share one with you - it gives me anxiety
John says - Here we go with the theatrics - there's NOTHING wrong with the office.
John says - You have a problem, you know that anyway, I don't have to tell you that, you admit it yourself often.
Suzan says - I'd just like you to clean your desk please
John says - I did it a couple of days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Suzan says - Well I'M going to clean it
John says - Don't touch my desk - do you understand?
John says - I know where everything is on it - and don't start shuffling my papers around
Suzan says - I DON'T shuffle things around - I actually clean and organize............

Maybe he's right - maybe I'm over reacting................
My desk.

I use these votive holders that were in my Christmas stocking this year to hold paper clips etc
nice and neat

a small planter filled with Irises

and though this sideboard was such a great choice for storage in such a small room, alas,
it was sold

and this has taken it's place - my monogrammed armoire ( more about that HERE )
has proven to be a great place to shove all kinds of crap into.........
( think it's time to finish painting it now though )

a small sewing bench - painted and reupholstered

also serves as a little extra storage

Our desks are modern - and don't have any storage so I added a little end table under mine

to hide our compulsive disorder when it comes to getting rid of telephone books?

and my " oops " table ( Here ) holds my newly acquired laser printer
( because you can't do transfer gels without a LASER printer )

and this is spotless for John - SPOTLESS -
he actually DID clean it a couple of days ago
don't ask me how he can actually find the mouse...............
( I wouldn't be surprised if a real mouse came scrambling out of that mess )
he wants a lap top - I say the fact that it actually has electrical cords attached to this thing is the only reason he can find it from day to day.

Guess what I did?

Suzan says - I cleaned your desk - and I put everything away in a file for you for when you have the time to sort through it

He's still digging through my filing system...............

Have a wonderful day all!

  1. Steve would kill me if I tried to organize his desk. His desk is actually pretty organized, but I never try to clean his studio.

What are transfer gels? We just got a great color laser printer.

  2. Well, a girl has to do what a girl has to do when the house is going on the market! I love all the great painted pieces you have in this room.

  3. Now that you have finished with John's desk, will you come and do mine? I take that back. I know where everything is and I don't want you to touch it!
ps - do you actually use paper clips?

  4. Hahahaha... you are hilarious! I take it you're a minimalist and fanatical organizer? YES. My type of person. I'm the same way. But my husband is pretty neat, so I don't have that anxiety. I do believe, though, that he'd probably spiral out of control and do a little hoarding if I wasn't around. I looked through your 'before and afters...' page and OHMYGOD! What amazing transformations. And it's funny because I was just telling my husband the other day how much I admire people who do that, and that they create some of the most beautiful pieces simply by transforming them. And here you are.

  5. My husband and I have separate closets and half of the time I can't even see the floor in his. He always says "don't touch my stuff, I'll get it" and I straighten it anyway, and then he says "thanks honey".... I think he is using reverse psychology on me or something.. to get me to clean up his mess. I need to wise up.

    1. Sorry, I go carried away, I LOVE your transformations! You do the most amazing work. AND your desk is perfect! Love the votive idea.

  6. I love your desk and creative storage pieces! Unfortunately, my space is more junky. I usually find myself cleaning up my work table before I start a new project. My desk is cluttered too BUT not as bad as my Bruce's.

  7. Haha, my desk looks like John's!!! Okay, maybe worse :) I need to be more organized, but there's just so much stuff!!!

  8. You do give him the warnings, and your changes do always turn out lovely. :)

  9. He needs his own office. With a door that can close. And one with a lock! Good job

  10. Your filing system is how my husband cleans. hahaha Only because he has no idea after 26 years where anything goes. Put it all in a nice neat pile on any available flat surface and viola! it's clean. I usually keep my craft room pretty organized but I'd hate to have to show you pics if it right now. Still, if I had to share a space I'd do the same as you.
    Pretty office. I like it.

  11. I must admit I am with John on this one. My desk looks like his and I wouldn't want anyone to touch my stuff. BUT... If my house was on the market it wouldn't look like this! LOL

  12. Hmmm...lets not be hasty and judge John just because his desk looks like that...some of my favourite people have desks that look like that (ahem). Can you come to my house?

  13. I totally understand the OCD-there is medication for that but why waste the money when I'm going to still do it anyway. ;-)

  14. My husband has a used to be a built-in bar, but the former owners put some doors on it and now it's the place for his crap.

  15. Well, if you could see my desk right now, you'd probably go into a major anxiety attack! :( I don't like it, but I'm sorting & cleaning, tossing and donating and getting ready to start packing. It's horrible and it's driving me crazy! I'm getting ready to get a HUGE black trash bag and just dump into it. I'll feel better and I seriously doubt I will miss anything!

I have missed YOU! I apologize for not stopping by like I should...and want to. Hopefully, things will begin to straighten out now. I can't wait to get moved and away from all this stress and not sleeping.

Will try to find some time to read through all your wonderful projects too! Your office area looks just as gorgeous as the rest of your home.

Hope you have a wonderfully blessed week!

  16. I'm with you. I can only tolerate a few small piles before everything gets in the right place. I really dislike clutter - even in my car. John's desk looks like a fresh start. But remember, old habits die hard. His desk might just end up looking like it used to!

  17. My desk is worse than John's and don't you dare come and clean it... I'm going to do it... or so I keep saying!

  18. Been there, done that. I got yelled out, too. Pigs don't need desks, I say.

  19. Your posts always crack me up! I love your conversations with your hubby! :)

    Blessings, Vicky

  20. Tee, hee, hee...... Patty/BC. ps I've got one too, ya want him?

  21. Oooooooo, girl! You did it this time! You walked on the wild and daring side. lol You certainly have more guts than I do. hehehe! If I did that to my husband tool room (he wouldn't know what to do in an office), he'd have kittens right then and there. But I've certainly been tempted. Great job though, girlie! It looks fabulous - and yes, it will show better at your open houses. Where are you moving?

    xoxo laurie

  22. :) I'd go crazy over that desk too! In fact I am about to go crazy because my sewing room looks worse than that right now because I have no time to get things cleaned up!

  23. Suzan, you need and deserve your own office. There is no reconciling the two work styles. You just need to close his door.

  24. oh Suzan you were very naughty to clean up Johns desk..ha ha ha I am still laughing at the file you meade- thanks for the laugh .I needed it.-love dee x

  25. I love your office it is so beautiful, love that armoire. John's desk needed to be straightened up especially if you are putting the house on the market! Good luck.

  26. Oh wow, Larry would kill me if I touched his desk (which looks as bad as John's). Way to go, it drives me crazy too...and then there's his bookshelf. We won't go there.
On the other hand, your office area looks so pretty!
    Debbie :)
