Bicker while you work ! ♪
The last time I showed you the steel kitchen unit which we saved from the mudroom when renovating, I only showed the top surface - I hadn't painted the " body " of it yet - which was white and very rusted.
I've since painted it with some Rustoleum paint that I had on hand - the color is a little boring but I didn't want to wait to get to the store ( next year it'll probably go a fun turquoise or lime green ! )
In the meantime I added lots of color to make up for the drab
You can see the first post on this HERE
The water proof drawer is the perfect place to store an extra outdoor table cloth and other items
I even had an Ikea chopping board on hand that covers the entire area - making it an outdoor butcher block if needed !
John says - Ok - that's getting ridiculous now
Suzan says - What?
John says - A spice rack - outside - ridiculous
( just ignore him - he knows not what he says - don't all kitchen's have spice racks - besides where would we put the steak spice ? )
I know I've said it before but I'm so thrilled this unit didn't end up in the dumpster - I'm so in love with this little piece of history and that I could actually put it to good use is even more of a bonus
A place to make Pesto ! ( or Pina Colada's for that matter )
We're having our first " Friend's " party on the 19th and I haven't even invited anyone yet - pitiful -
I've been too busy trying to fix up the back yard so that we can all............................
Next up?
Why the dining room of course -
John says - I'm curious - are you going to create bedrooms and a bathroom out here too?
Suzan says - Well a bedroom would just be silly - but a bathroom? Genius !
John says - You're insane.......................
Suzan says - And now that I think of it - I'd love a daybed tucked in the far corner - with maybe a little end
table beside it filled with books and magazines - so yes - I may just create a bedroom
John says - Maybe we could rent the back yard out to a student
here's a sneak peak of the dining room - or as John calls it " where we eat " ( it's not quite finished )
We worked outside the whole day on this - it was a beautiful hot ( but breezy ) perfect day to bicker
while we worked ! ( I can't whistle - so bickering works for me just fine )
Just bicker while you work
And cheerfully together we can tidy up the place
So hum a merry tune (humming)
It won't take long when there's a song to help you set the pace
And as you sweep the room
Imagine that the broom
Is someone that you love
And you'll find you're dancing to the tune

I'll be trying to finish the dining area up this weekend so I should be able to show it on Monday
In the meantime I'm so happy I can tick the kitchen off my list...........
AND all items were on hand so it cost nothing to create :)
An outdoor living room will have to wait for next year - but for now I gotta say - I feel happy! I feel like
singing! I feel like dancing ! Hey Macarena !!! ( my favorite dance - a nerd, I know ) I did it with the little ones last week ..................
( and then she walks back in the house and her shoulders immediately slump down and she sheds a tear or two at how much still has to be done INSIDE ) Hey Crapperena !
But - for now - another job bites the dust ♪♪
And it may just be my favorite furniture makeover yet :)
Hope everyone has an entire weekend filled with sunshine ♥

I love your outdoor kitchen, spice rack and all, Suzan. The old sink cabinet looks great all painted up. Good thing you saved it from the dump. I can't wait to see your outdoor dining room next week. The sneak peek looks amazing. Enjoy the weekend. Sunshine galore here. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the song!! That sink unit looks great. We have a couple of those out in the shop. It never occurred to me to paint them! Hippie you have lots of opportunity to have friends over and use your outdoor kitchen. And of course the spice rack makes sense. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hate this phone!!!!!! HOPE. Not hippie. What's with this???????
ReplyDeleteDid you do anything to the rusty cabinet before you painted? I have one that I need to paint and was wondering how to do it.
ReplyDeleteLove it...had to show it off to my hubby. :-)
ReplyDeleteRenting the backyard...sure why not :-) You are so much fun. Just love it.
Happy Weekend.
Carla
And here I just built a side shelf for the grill so I have a place to set down the plate and spatula and I thought I was amazing. Dang it! Now I must spend the weekend sitting in the backyard, wracking my brain on how to install a whole kitchen out there. Maybe I'll drink a beer while I'm wracking. Fortunately, there is a beer frig in the garage. That's a start.
ReplyDeleteOh my Sizan! I love your outdoor kitchen and dining room! You are so creative and make everything look so good. Have fun planning your party and have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Vicky
Suzan it's wonderful! Double the living space is smart for days by the pool. I have an outhouse, and seriously, I should move it by our pool. It's just out in the back for those Halloween parties.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to hang out! I love your outdoor kitchen! I would seriously never go inside if we had a space like yours. So jelly! Have a great weekend friend!
ReplyDeleteLove your outdoor kitchen...it looks great!!
ReplyDelete~Cindy
I love it!!! If you want to add a bed and bath, forget John , just do it!!!! You two sound just like Jim and me!!!! We worked on the backyard for a family cookout for July fourth for the family and I was called insane a few times too!!!!LOL!!!!! Wish I had a pool, don't have the space or the energy to keep it up now!!!!! Enjoy it, it looks wonderful, you did good girl!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt look great with the new old paint. Teasing us with the peek at the dining area! You brat! You need an old iron or metal bed too, or a hammock to ring the bell for a drink after all your hard work inside and out. Have a lovely weekend. Patty
ReplyDeleteYour John sounds a lot like my Mr. C. He fights me on everything ! It's only natural to have a spice rack in a kitchen, and a dinning room is most appropriate. To drive him crazy I would put a bed out there! Can't wait to see the area! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love that kitchen counter and sink. It is seriously fun. I wish I could find one for us.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. I can't wait to see your Blog Tour post.
That kitchen is so cool I think even Neil Young would want to hang in your back yard. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteLove it, the old kitchen came up brilliantly. You can tell John that not having outdoor rooms here is unheard of. There are people I know that almost never use their indoor kitchens and we use our outdoor dining table 9 months of the year. In fact it is the most expensive piece of furniture we've ever bought but well used.
ReplyDeleteA++ on the kitchen creation! I want a cabinet like that and maybe a spice rack, too.
ReplyDeleteMiss Busy Bee...your party will be a blast!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful white kitchen, absolutely love it. I am sure your client loves it too. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteitalian-kitchen-fancy
You are a genius, girl. What a sweet, cozy, charming space you've created out there. I love bringing inside things outside to create more rooms. Had to laugh at your bickering issues. Hubby and I do it ALL the time when we're working on a project together. He just doesn't get the fact that I know what I want and his ideas are NOT in the plan. lol Have a great party, sweets. :)
ReplyDeletexoxo laurie
Nice job Suzan! I love it! I also happen to love that color, even though you plan to change it. I'm so glad you are enjoying some outdoor work now!
ReplyDeleteI love what you have created! Your hubs sounds like mine, always shaking his head about my new project, but he does go along and after a week or so he loves it and raves about it! You certainly had a vision with that rusty ole cabinet and of course you should have spices! I recently painted a big blue swirl of water on my washer and dryer and am just waiting for someone to notice it :) I guess they are oblivious! I think you should definitely add a daybed and a stack of mags to your outdoor space!
ReplyDeleteJenna
oh I love that little gallery wall outside with the golden frame and the chalk board...super super awesome! Christine from Little Brags
ReplyDeleteI love that you're always so busy prettying things up and changing things around. You'd think my place was so boring. I only move the furniture on dusting day and then put it right back in the same spot, lol. I am getting ready to paint over the ugly color of paint hubby liked and I put up with silently killing me for a few years. The time has come. And I'm happppppppppppppppy. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're too funny!! I LOVE the sneak peek of the dining area...looks amazing :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
I am swooning over this little space! We love to grill and dine outdoors, and this is so cute and functional!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Megan - I'm so happy I was able to save this piece !
Deletexoxo
I love the restoration on the kitchen cabinet and the spice rack is genius!
ReplyDeleteSuch a perfect little kitchen area! Opt for a hanging, swing bed when you start the bedroom ;) I've always wanted one in my backyard!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I totally love the look of your outdoor kitchen. What I like the most about the whole thing are the accents. The bits and pieces you've added to really make your outdoor space your own. That message on the wooden plank is just lovely. Thank you for sharing that wonderful project of yours. I hope your other projects are done with equal success. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteTerry Holt @ LandTech
Thanks so much Terry - what a compliment !
DeleteHave a wonderful evening!
hugs,
Great space. Who wouldn't want to cook her. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much - I don't do the outside cooking though - John does lol

I have always wanted an outdoor kitchen area, but we've never had a space that it would work with. This is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteNow that is a BBQ area, love your space.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to have an outdoor kitchen. No more lugging things in and out. Very user friendly. Thank you for sharing with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop! I hope you’ll join us again next week!

I can't whistle either Suzan so I guess next time I'm out working with hubby I'll have to give bickering a try. Entertaining no doubt. lol! Love the way it all turned out! Thanks for sharing it with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Very Cute! I love the way you put it all together, and a bathroom would be a great idea! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelley - I think the bathroom would be John's absolute limit LMHO

Oh my word, I totally love it all. How fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with your outdoor kitchen! How SWEET! I want me one now! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteLove your outdoor kitchen Suzan! I have told Mr. B that our deck serves as a kitchen, dining room and living room. Now you have me thinking bedroom too ;-) Thanks for sharing at the party this week! I am featuring your kitchenette on my FB page and have pinned it to the You're Gonna Love It Tuesday board on Pinterest too :-)
ReplyDeletevisiting you for the first time. found you on the handmade hangout at redoux. love this, how fantastic for you
ReplyDeleteWell of course your outdoor kitchen must have a spice rack. What is John thinking? It's a good thing he's got you to keep him from losing touch with reality. LOL. Your outdoor kitchen rocks, Suzann. I can't believe I hadn't followed you on Google. . .thought I had, but nope. Not. So now I'm an official follower. Glad I got that resolved. Have a great weekend and partying with friends. xxx ~ Nancy
ReplyDeleteHey Nancy !
DeleteJohn wasn't thinking at all obviously LMHO - thanks so much for your kind words -
Hope you have a wonderful weekend too - I plan to eat just a little too much -
( perhaps have just one glass of wine too many ) stuff my face with cheesecake when it's impossible to get anything else in my mouth ( or as John calls it - my pie hole ) and do the Macarena - yes I'm definitely going to do the Macarena!!!
Much love,
xox
What a lovely little space! Didn't you say before that you just moved in fairly recently? How on earth do you have the time?! I'm jealous of your work ethic.
ReplyDeleteI want to come over and play kitchen with you!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this post. The Suzan *&* John dialog is downright adorable!
ReplyDeleteHave The Best Day Ever!

I love your outdoor kitchen! And I love to bicker while I work. And get on that Crapperena. I'm always in need of one.

What a fun place to do some outdoor entertaining. I bet your friends are going to love all the sweet thoughtful details.
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzan for sharing your outdoor kitchen with us at Project Inspire{d}!
Looks great Suzan! I love it when a project comes together like that... paint you had on hand to spiff up the cabinet, a cutting board that magically fits perfectly! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteTania
LOVE your space! Thanks for linking!
ReplyDeleteAmazing redo on that sink. I can't wait to see the dining area. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteSo cute! This looks so fun and I would be outside all the time! It gives me such fun ideas to do in our backyard since I would love to be able to work out there and finish writing my book while the kids play. Thanks so much for linking up!

Hi Suzan,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know that we featured this post at this weeks party. Gwen my 5 year grand daughter picked it out with me. She loved the snow white video and the martini glass mouse icon. She was really funny.
Thanks so much for sharing with us every week.
