I WANNA live there Wednesday # 12

I live in a pretty incredible area - It's an historical neighbourhood loaded with tons and tons and tons of charm - and 20th century architecture, just steps away from the city center, it's also a pretty expensive neighbourhood ( in which I live in servants quarters basically compared to what I'm surrounded by.)

Because there's days I don't have furniture makeovers to show you - I've chosen Wednesdays to showcase and feature one home that's for sale around here.................( or apartment - or duplex - or teepee )

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Good morning everyone!

It's that time again - and boy do I have a beauty to show you this week
This home was built in 1875 ( makes mine look new at the turn of the century lol )
and it's listed at 1,575,000.00 -
7 bedrooms
3 bathrooms

Come on in everybody.................
TAKE your shoes off
TAKE it all in
and most of all
TAKE your time

I have to say the one thing I love about these heritage homes is how totally unassuming they look from the front - just a simple classic row house

If I had that kind of money to plunk down - I'd simply write a cheque from the next photo alone........I would just send my chauffeur over with a cheque and tell him to politely hand it over to the owner -
Those antique front doors? O.M.G.
The work on the stairwell?
And that white hutch over on the right hand side?
Ok - ready for the next one

the fireplace, the built ins, the chandy, oh my............

words are now starting to fail me - not a good thing for a blogger

the SECOND stairwell  going up to the 3rd floor

music room anyone ? do re mi fa so la ti do - I was meant to have one of these - not to actually play - but to drape myself across at parties - that was the Suzan I was meant to be
and as Cher sang:
I'm a scamp, a vamp and a bit of a tramp

not my favorite bathroom in the series - but I'll take it
and if you saw my bathroom you'd vomit so don't know who the hell I am exactly to make such a comment lol

Is that blind the sweetest thing ever?  there you go friends, a new diy project - looks easy
peasy!!!

obviously that's the kids bath - and playroom - surely that much space can't be used for just one purpose?

Ok - shut the freaking door will you please?
No I mean that literally, shut the door, I want to just sit in this closet and reflect for awhile, maybe stare at shoes for a couple of hours......................

Upper balcony - one of 3

Those spiral staircases are very unique to Montreal - they're everywhere, even in the fronts of a lot of buildings and they are usually Black Wrought Iron.............this was apparently the Irish influence at the turn of the century ( although I can tell these are not the original ones - they must have been replaced ) as a young child I was able to run up and down these ( sometimes in roller skates ) as a teenager I would lug a bike up and down staircases very similar to these..................

I just love this outdoor space - no lawn mower ! and that's the door to the garage  my workshop whenever I win enough to buy this place.

And I'm going to show you next week's this week ( because I'm nice like that )
and show you what you can get for half the price - 839,000 - it has an immense amount of potential - I know there'll be things you aren't so crazy about it - but think POTENTIAL ok?
Because it's absolutely swimming in it!!!

I love the double molding - it's all over this place

gorgeous

and I know a lot of people would not agree with me - I would want to see this bathroom restored - not renovated - except for the vanity - that needs to be an old dresser!

check out that small round window - shows you how thick the walls used to be

ok so that was all a little depressing lol
see you tomorrow!

  1. I am simply overwhelmed that such places exist. Living in Alaska, it's easy to believe those homes are only in movies - no one actually LIVES in homes like that! What a treasure you live where you do, where people care about architecture and character and history. I would LOVE to walk down your street for one afternoon and just take it all in. Wow.

  2. OK - the first house was gorgeous and I love the light, neutral walls. Even in the children's rooms the wall color was very soft. Love that. The woodwork is incredible. The patio space would become my private retreat and I would NEVER take my cell phone with me!

Second house - the flooring choices killed it for me. The hardwoods are just so, so, something. I don't know. Too light, too bright? The kitchen was ok but not my cuppa.

You have some fabulous houses in your area. I love rowhouses and Victorian era are my faves.

  3. Wowza! The first house was over the top crazy! Very tastefully done for sure! However, I have to admit I have a soft spot for the second! I'd spend the money I saved on the first and reno the second! You're right, that washroom is a keeper! Those floors, and staircase need help. Even painting the staircase all in white may help, dunno...When I win the cash, I'll let you know how I fixed her up!

    1. I think I'd buy the second one too!
And we're too funny - we're decorating a dream lol

  4. I love #1, however, if I can offer criticism, those cabinets in the dining room are a bit wierdly angled, and that room with the sectional looks really a squeeze. Also, I would rather a more informal dining area connected to the kitchen...where would you have breakfast? at that fancy table.?

#2 is lovely....loads of potential and I for sure would have kept that bathroom, but I would add a better sink. Only negative is the flooring which is WAY to busy.

  5. The trim work is so phenomenal, the kind of wood detailing that so rarely happens these days....love it! If only I was only a carpenter, I could start with crown moulding....

    1. Your hubby is supposed to be the carpenter - and you'd be his lady ( would you marry him anyway, would you have his baby )???
I am so in love with the molding I can't tell you!

  6. These posts are starting to give me an automated physical reaction. A sharp intake of breath, and tensing muscles. Like I'm subconsciously preparing myself for the taunting I'm about to get.

I.love.all.these.houses. The only sad part is that they're for sale which means someone has to leave them.

I am a bit peeved about the Cher song that you've stuck in my head for the remainder of the day, however.....

    1. LOL I've been singing it all day too Cheryl!
And I don't feel bad for those leaving them - I feel bad for me who'll never live in one of them lol - they're probably moving on to bigger and better!

  7. Hi Suzan!!!

I would gladly take the first or second house. I read about houses like the 1st one in Victoria Holt novels.

You can see the England influence surrounding Montreal. We use to go visiting our aunts and they lived in the "flats"(as they use to call them) and we use to go up and down those stairs that you mentioned you use to use. I remember the bathrooms, because the flush the toilets we had to pull on these chains attached to the pipes. It was a unique experience.

Thank you for WOW moments for Wednesday!!!

  9. While we are dreaming let me just say my chauffeur would be running over yours to get my cheque delivered, except I would like at least a little patch of grass for the doggies to scratch at. Beautiful house and the details are amazing. You would be invited to the housewarming so I could see you sprawl across the piano! Cocktail weiner anyone? Patty/BC

    1. my chauffeur use to be in the Mafia - so tell yours to be VERY careful or he'll simply be obliterated lol
and this is NOT the house for you - there's no grass - I'll find another one next week for you Patty!

  11. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just love touring historical homes, and this was such a treat as I am home bound recovering from Achilles surgery. And, did you say you climbed those stairs with a bike? Very impressed. :)

    1. not those stairs in particular - but when I was younger we lived on the 3rd story of a similar type of building and yeah - we used to run up and down them with our bikes, can you imagine?
and thank you Di for enjoying it! Montreal is filled with some pretty incredible architecture!
I do one every Wednesday - and it's always homes listed in my part of the city which is a heritage section.
Take care of yourself - surgery's no fun :(
      Hugs,
      Suzan

  12. That first place is absolutely gorgeous! It reminds me of the south end of Halifax, NS.

  13. Gorgeous!

What kills me about the second house are the light fixtures. They don't go! Especially the boob lamp. Can't stand those! You need a spectacular chandelier in that room. It's a good thing they're selling the house. They're not worthy, lol!

  14. I love this style of house, especially the first one. In the UK, we would call it a Victorian terrace, though it would have more detailing on the outside and it would be rendered and painted white on the outside too.
There are thousands of houses like this in London though quite a lot in my town too, along the seafront. Unfortunately I can't afford one here either !
    Thanks for sharing.

  15. Thanks for sharing these great photos. I personally like the 2nd one as I can believe it as a home. Hope you visit my blog, too. Helen

  16. This small town girl is overwhelmed! The first is too over-the-top for me. At first I thought that closet was an office. The second one I love for all the quirkiness. You are right as rain that bath would have to stay with an old sink. Thanks for the tour.

  17. They don't build houses with that kind of detail anymore. Just beautiful.
