Little boys belong in trees

Man holds little boy hostage in a an Alabama Bunker

Little boys belong in trees
with dirty hands and scuffy knees
little boys belong by ponds
with turtles and frogs and magic wands
they belong on bikes and wagons too
and dusty patches of dirt and goo
they belong in trucks and cars that go vroom
and any place where they've left room
they belong to spiderman - superman too
( any other caped crusader will do )
They belong to spiders and slimy frogs
to mice and cats and big furry dogs
They belong to rockets and bumper cars
they belong here on earth - reaching for stars
to dragons - that fly and circle and soar
and make believe lions - that grumble and roar
to boy scouts and flashlights and comic books
and home made tents in impossible nooks
They belong to messy bits of string
They belong to the chords that make our hearts sing
They belong to freckles and one missing tooth
and to a world that celebrates youth
To Christopher Robin and Winnie the pooh
to Tigger and Piglet and yes, Eyeore too

They belong in a place that's safe and sound
exploring their world - but always home bound
and unless you've held one tight in your arms
you cannot imagine they're mystical charms
They belong to the world ( you and me )
they belong to the wonderful men they will be

they do not belong in bunkers - please pray for his safe return.
my heart aches again today...............................
it seems we get a little break
and wham it's back again.

( just a small note - because I've been asked who wrote the above - I wrote it this morning with a very heavy heart  )

UPDATE - OH BE STILL MY HEART - THE LITTLE BOY HAS BEEN RESCUED.
I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW AFRAID I WAS OF THIS OUTCOME - HOW TERRIBLE I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE - AND. HE. HAS. BEEN. RESCUED.
MY HEART IS SOOOOO HAPPY RIGHT NOW.

  1. Oh Suzan, that is so beautiful and true. I just can imagine how you feel and I feel with you! We've gotta change this world and there has to be a different way than this one.

  2. Did you write that poem? If you did, you should be exploring your ability as a writer. We all care but being able to write it is something else all together.

  4. This story is so sad. I really hope it ends well. Absolutely terrifying.

  5. I was stunned to hear about this. It is really so sad, I cannot imagine the terror that this little boy is feeling. The family of the bus driver did not deserve this either. Apparently he was a well-loved bus driver who treated the children as if they were his own. A really sad event.

  6. So true, Suzan. We are praying too, for the safe return of this child to his parents, with as little psychological damage as possible. What a horrid thing.

  7. I have been praying for this little boy. I can't imagine how scared his is and his parents. Love that poem (didn't see who wrote it) and sent it to my daughter, son in law and niece.

  8. That is so horrible. I hadn't heard about it, but i don't watch the news because it's usually so depressing. I will definitely be praying for that little boy. On a side note, many people think animal cruelty is no big deal and should not carry harsh penalties; however, it is widely recognized that animal cruelty is very often a precursor to human cruelty. His beating the dog to death should have been a huge flashing red light to law enforcement. Your poem was beautiful.

    1. and apparently he shot at neighbours too - don't know how these weren't warnings - except I don't think it's a crime to be punished for torturing or killing animals - which is a crime unto itself...........
I can't bear the thought of that child down there ...............it's just too much...........
      thanks for coming by Betsy
      hugs,
      Suzan

  9. I hadn't heard about this...The news is too upsetting so I just don't watch.
As a mom of three boys and one of them an Aspie (Asperger's Syndrome), I am just sick about this and what that innocent little boy is going thru. Change in routine is so difficult for them in general, but a trauma such a this...it's hard to say how he's functioning in this situation. The enclosed space alone would be horrific. I'm just sick at my stomach over this.
Suzan, your poem is so beautiful and heartfelt. My heart is breaking for the little guy's parents and for him. I'll be praying that he's back in their arms soon.

  10. Oh Suzan, this is heartbreaking. I'll never understand this kind of evil. I've been praying for the safe return of the little boy, and for the family of the driver.
Your poem is beautiful, your talent is amazing. This deserves to be published.

  13. Beautiful words. You're expressing so well what we are all thinking.

I have been thinking about this little boy too in the past two days. I'm praying for his safe return home. I can't imagine what his parents are going through. That man has killed a dog and fired some shots at the neighbours. I don't know why that wasn't enough to have him jailed at that point.

    Hugs,

    Nicole

  15. You are so incredibly talented my friend and you have such a big heart. I agree with all that your poem said, little boys should do all of those things, and I pray that little boy gets to do all of that soon. As a mother of 8 and grandmother of 7, It breaks my heart when I hear about anyone harming or trying to harm a child. I am also a mother to a an adorable lil bulldog and as she is my child I have no tolerance for anyone that harms animals either. I hope when they capture this man that he never sees the light of day again. I love your poem Suzan it is really beautiful, my niece just had a little boy and I would love to borrow it and send it to her, let me know if thats ok. hugs my friend, praying with you for that little boys safety. Tobey
